Why I Became a Music Therapist

Kate has always been a singer and musician and has always wanted to help people. She found out about the field of music therapy when she was 15 years old and has passionately pursued it ever since. She loves what she does and is so blessed to be able to help people in this way. She is most passionate about the science behind the music, seeing how and why it works, and seeing the enjoyment and growth in the individuals NeuroRhythm serves.

Education

Kate graduated in 2002 from Chapman University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and additional concentration in vocal studies. In 2003 she received her national certification as a Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).  She then received advanced training and a certificate in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) from the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy in 2003, and earned advanced recognition as a Neurologic Music Therapist Fellow in 2014. In 2012 Kate completed her Master of Music in Music Therapy, emphasis in Neurologic Music Therapy, from Colorado State University. Additionally, she completed a Graduate Certificate in Behavioral Intervention in Autism from University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2011, which included five graduate level courses in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and autism.  The program leads toward board certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) following the required 1500 clinical hours.
