Mark Lugo, MT-BC joined the NeuroRhythm team in January 2021 as an intern, and continued after completion of his internship as an employee. He has experience with a wide variety of neurodevelopmental and psychological diagnoses, as well as experience in early development, special needs, hospice, and psychiatric care.
Mark's primary instrument is guitar. He taught himself how to play guitar at age 14 with a love of rock and metal music. He studied classical guitar under Dr. Alejandro Montiel of the Texas Guitar Quartet for five years along with developing his skills on piano, voice, and percussion in music therapy sessions. He has also taken lessons from shred guitarist Rusty Cooley and his idol Mark Tremonti of Creed/Alter Bridge. Mark has a wide range of clinical experience and currently specializes in neurodevelopmental and psychological diagnoses.
When he was in high school, Mark discovered his joy for choir and performing music in a formal setting. Through his choir director and his older sister, he discovered the field of music therapy. Music therapy was the field in which Mark could follow his dreams to pursue music as a living while making a positive impact on people’s lives, and to find a unique way to integrate his love for rock and metal in the music therapy field.
Mark completed his course work for a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Sam Houston State University in May 2019, completed his course work for a minor in psychology from Sam Houston State University in December 2019, and received an associate’s degree in music from Lone Star College in May 2017. He then completed his internship at NeuroRhythm Music Therapy Services in June 2021 followed by his certification as a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-CB) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
