Autism Awareness Month 2013

April is Autism Awareness month and April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day.  NeuroRhythm encourages you to support autism by learning more about it, informing others, advocating, volunteering, donating, sponsoring, or any other way you can think of.  

Autism Events in Colorado Springs, April 2013

There are some upcoming autism and developmental disabilities events where you can support autism.  Alpine Autism Center is having their 6th annual fundraising walk on April 20th.  The Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team is having their annual Resource Fair for Individuals with Disabilities on April 25th.  Scroll down on the home page of their website to download the flyer.

Autism Information

Autism Spectrum Disorders are a group of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by significant social, communication and behavioral challenges.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism now affects 1 in 88 children, which means many of you have met or know of someone with autism.  The causes of autism are still being researched and there are no known cures, although several treatments have been shown to be effective.  Some effective autism therapy and treatments include Nutrition, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Sensory Integration, and Music Therapy.

Is there research to support music therapy with autism?

New Website Launched!

New Design and Interactive Features

brain-overview-web-button.pngAfter much anticipation and countless hours of hard work, NeuroRhythm is excited to announce the launching of our new, completely redesigned website! This website has a new look that incorporates the new logo and slogan with picture icons: "Science, Creativity, Compassion." It also provides viewers with more information about music therapy and why it works, including an interactive map of the brain through which viewers can learn about the science behind the music: the fact that music is processed in the whole brain and music enhances and optimizes the brain, providing better, more efficient therapy.  Don't miss this interactive visual "Music Therapy and the Brain" experience on our Music Therapy Science webpage!

New Blog, Photos and Videos

We added a blog to our website for news, announcements and articles. Our website also features new photos of music therapy in action that are organized into albums by goal area such as Cognitive, Motor, or Speech/Language. We now have videos of music therapy in action that are also in different albums. If you are a passionate, bright and talented Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) who strives for excellence, loves to work with children and adults with developmental and neurological disorders, and is interested in the research-based approaches of Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), NeuroRhythm may be the perfect company for you!

NeuroRhythm has an opening for a music therapist to provide community-based and some clinic-based music therapy services for children and adults with developmental and neurological disorders in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  This is a part-time employee position with opportunities for growth.  MT-BC and NMT are required.  ABA knowlege and experience is preferred.  At least 1 year experience (more experience preferred) working with individuals with developmental and neurological challenges, especially autism, is required.  Pay is based on experience and is competitive with similar positions in Colorado and nationally.

Military Autism Coverage

NeuroRhythm was interviewed by News Channel 13 for a story on military autism services coverage.  Currently, only active duty military have benefits that cover autism services.  Retirees and wounded warriors do not have these benefits.  Families are fighting for all military, regardless of duty status, to receive benefits for autism services.  Music therapy is one autism service for which it is difficult to get military insurance coverage, but families and music therapists continue to fight for it.
