According to the Centers for Disease Control, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art. Today 1 in 68 children (1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls) are diagnosed as having ASD. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th Edition (DSM-V) revised the information about ASD last year with important updates for loved ones and professionals to be aware of. The causes of autism are still being researched and there are no known cures, although several treatments have been shown to be effective.  Some effective autism therapy and treatments include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Sensory Integration, Nutrition and Music Therapy.
